Manitoba Truckers Get Virtual Training

WINNIPEG — The Manitoba Trucking Association (MTA) launched a new online training library today.

The new tool, designed by CarriersEdge, focuses on safety, compliance, operational efficiency, and serves up a full plate of driver training programs, in-depth testing of driver knowledge, and thorough tracking of all activities for managers.

The library has over 35 courses for all levels of operations, MTA said, like defensive driving, winter driving (should probably brush up on that one now), cargo securement, and WHMIS, to name a few.

MTA members can sign up for a free two-week subscription on the MTA homepage.

The online training was what MTA members wanted and needed to stay competitive, said executive director Bob Dolyniuk.

"Drivers will now be able to train on the road – while waiting at the border, while trailers are being loaded or unloaded at a customer, while they are in a truck stop – at whatever time and location is convenient," Dolyniuk explained. It will help ensure that staff education and "continuous operational improvement can be had, with minimal impact on daily operations."
