Mentorship panel named for Trucking HR Canada event

OTTAWA, ON – Trucking HR Canada’s first-ever Driver Connect & Share event will include a panel discussion with driver mentors and proteges sharing personal insights on mentoring.

The event will be held on Saturday, November 12, from 9 am to 1 pm, at the Sandman Signature Hotel Toronto Airport.

David HenryThe morning opens with Highland Transport’s Joanne Millen-Mackenzie, our reigning Highway Star of the Year, sharing her perspectives, knowledge and learnings from close to 25 years behind the wheel. Participants in the mentoring panel include:

Bill Dejong, a driver and mentor, at J.G Drapeau — Dejong his driving career at 21 when he purchased his first straight truck. After obtaining his A license, he started to haul tankers across Canada, and then served clients with flatbed work. He has been running shorthaul runs for a decade.

  • Lorraine Lewis, a recent graduate, driver, and protege at J.G. Drapeau — For as long as she could remember, Lewis’ dream has always been to become a transport driver.
  • Michele Joslin, a commercial driver trainer from Humber College — This former long-haul driver turned driver trainer lists hobbies as trucks, trucks and other stuff you drive. Her certifications include: Teacher/Trainer of Adults, defensive driving techniques, and Toastmasters Competent Communicator.
  • David Henry, a heavy-haul company driver and mentor from LCG Equipment – This Today’s Trucking contributor has more than 30 years’ experience in the trucking industry, encompassing all aspects from a company driver, dispatcher and owner-operator to company owner.
  • Shelley Uvanile-Hesch, a commercial driver and mentor from Sharp Transportation Systems. Uvanile-Hesch has been driving a rig for 17 years and recently set up the Women’s Trucking Federation of Canada to support and promote women in the trucking industry.

“This panel is a direct response to feedback we continue to receive that drivers want something specific to their day-to-day concerns,” says Angela Splinter, CEO of Trucking HR Canada. “Delegates wanted to learn more from drivers; we are delivering on content attendees want to see.”
