More Gotcha cameras in Gotham?

NEW YORK – This city never sleeps and if Mayor Bloomberg got his way, neither would traffic enforcement.

According to the New York Daily News, Bloomberg would like every intersection in Manhattan to have a video camera and he’d even publish the names of red light runners to boot.

"I think we should have ’em on every corner if we could," Bloomberg said of the controversial video cameras.

The Mayor wants state legislators to increase the number of cameras on city streets to from 150 to 225.

The city can install as many cameras as it likes on its own, but needs state approval to fine drivers for the related infractions.

Somewhat facetiously, Bloomberg quipped that scofflaws should have their names in the paper published along with the names of assemblyman and senators who vote against the camera increase.

Bloomberg would also like use Big Brother to catch speeders.

A bill supporting speed cameras is before the state Assembly but has not yet been introduced in the Senate, reports the Daily News.
