REGINA – Forty-six years ago Dennis Doehl moved a Saskatchewan family to Toronto with a half-ton.
Today, it's a fleet of 600 trucks and trailers, a staff of 400 and is run so well that this past weekend it was named Saskatchewan's Business of the Year at the 27th annual Achievement in Business Excellence (ABEX) awards.
Jay's Moving & Storage Ltd. was also the winner in the service category.
Since it was launched in 1964 in Regina, Jay's has grown to 12 offices and warehouses across Alberta and Saskatchewan.
In 2004, Doehl was inducted into the Saskatchewan Transportation Hall of Fame.
"Their attention to customer service is exceptional," said Steve McLellan, CEO of the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce, in a press release. "They continually look for innovative ways to grow the company and serve their customers better."
Sponsored by the W. Brett Wilson Centre for Entrepreneurial Excellence, in Saskatoon, the Business of the Year is awarded to a company based on profitability, growth, stability, investment strategy, and impact based on size.
