New Distribution Center Will Top Delivery Performance: Volvo

BYHALIA, MS — Volvo is building a 1-million-square-foot central parts distribution center in Byhalia, Mississippi, to support its Mack, Volvo and UD truck brands, as well as the Volvo Construction Equipment brand and Volvo Penta marine business.

“In addition to featuring the industry’s best logistics technologies and lean processes, we also intend for the new central distribution center to be energy efficient, by careful and innovative design of the building,” says Marcus Avenstam, project manager. “The improvement in our overall network will allow us to handle higher volumes much more efficiently, while simultaneously improving profitability.”

The facility will be located to the southeast of Memphis, Tennessee and will serve as the center of the company’s North American parts distribution network. The new location will be close by logistics hubs to allow for export to other regions and will improve delivery performance and efficiency for dealers and customers, according to Volvo.

The new facility will employ about 250 people, but Volvo will close the regional distribution center in Tennessee when the one in Mississippi opens, according to published reports.

Mack Trucks leadership shuffle

Mack Trucks named Stan Mikalonis its new VP of National Accounts, succeeding Mike Reardon, who will serve as Mack’s vice president for the Western Region. Reardon is replacing John Thomas, who is retiring.

“Mack is pleased to welcome Stan to the team,” said Stephen Roy, president, Mack Trucks North American sales and marketing. “He brings a strong heavy-duty industry background, which will prove an invaluable asset as he helps us further our partnerships with national account customers.”

Before joining Mack, Mikalonis served in a variety of leadership roles at heavy-duty OEM and dealer operations. Mikalonis will be based in Greensboro at Mack World Headquarters.
