Canadian 'cure' truck convoys raise $80Gs
10/21/2009

OTTAWA -- Convoys of truckers in three cities across Canada have raised more than $80,000 for breast cancer research.

All three Canadian legs of the second annual Convoy for a Cure wrapped up earlier this month, with the fourth run scheduled to go ahead this Saturday Oct. 24 in Carl’s Corner, Tex.

About 40 trucks kicked things off in Ontario and, for the first time, in Alberta on Oct. 3, raising $19,000 and $20,000 respectively.
Another convoy in Moncton this past weekend drummed up a whopping $42,000.

The Ontario event was organized by convoy founder Gatineau-based trucker Rachele Champagne

Running things in New Brunswick is Roxanne Doran Smith (the wife of our former highwaySTAR of the Year, Terry Smith)

The first ever American 'cure' convoy is headed up by OOIDA member Cindy Stowe.

A total of six convoys (and, perhaps, counting) are being planned for 2010.
