HANDS-FREE HEADSET
03/10/2010

Drivers will know Cobra Electronics as a maker of CB radios, but it has recently created a line of wireless cell phone accessories that are increasingly useful as hands-free laws sprout across the continent. In Canada, both B.C. and Ontario have banned the use of cell phones and other handheld devices while driving. The Cobra Deluxe Bluetooth headset, model CBTH1, is one answer to that challenge.

It’s especially well suited to truck drivers because it features "T5 Sonance noise cancelling technology" that blocks out background noise, focusing solely on amplifying a person's voice. I’ve used the device and can report that the noise-cancelling feature really does work well.

It’s battery-operated and comes with a home, vehicle, and USB charger. That charge will give you 8 hours of talk time and 250 hours in standby mode.

On the comfort front, it’s very light and sits easily on the head, with the microphone ‘boom’ useable left or right. This is not a tiny device that fits around the ear, rather a proper headset.

The one-touch, single-button operation makes it easy to accept or end calls, or to turn the headset on and off. There’s a separate volume button. Pairing the headset to your phone is simple.

Cobra says this headset has also found a home with many gamers linking the headset up to their gaming counsels for a hands- and wire-free experience.
