WASHOUGAL, Wash. -- A new iPhone application helps keep truck drivers' document hours-of-service records, among other industry-related activities

iCooper, a software publisher based in Southwest Washington, says that iDDL, or "iPhone Driver's Daily Log," was designed to make that process easier by automatically capturing information on their phone.

The app taps into the phone's GPS system to capture and input location information while adding date and time stamping to the log record.

"iDDL will save truck drivers many hours of time, increasing productivity and profitability while providing relief from the headache of mandatory paperwork," said Ken Hines, CEO of iCooper. "iDDL tracks those hours, and indicates to the driver when he or she is outside the set parameters."

The iDDL also provides an inspection checklist and automates much of the inspection document process, so drivers can meet inspection requirements.

Reports can be e-mailed directly from within the application on the iPhone.

The app also comes with a subscription-based online service that can back up data and provide access to reports that can be downloaded, or e-mailed in PDF form.

Other features of iDDL include the ability to capture a signature for delivery confirmation and the ability to use the camera on the iPhone to document information.

A company product spokesman told todaystrucking.com that a Canadian HOS app is also in the works, although it likely won't be ready for a few months.

Documentation offerings for other industry applications are also being planned.
