Product Watch

January 25, 2012

With the start of show season comes a new round of product introductions after a few relatively quiet months. This week everything's been happening in Las Vegas at both the World of Concrete show and Heavy Duty Aftermarket Week, billed as North America’s largest aftermarket exhibition.

Leading the way is a revised, evolved version of the Cummins ISX11.9 engine introduced over a year ago. The 'new' ISX12 has a broader range of applications, and promises significantly better fuel economy than its vocational-only predecessor.

Useful improvements on the brake front arise out of Meritor, including an improved version of its PlatinumShield brake-shoe coating that aims to defeat rust-jacking. The company has also launched new Reduced Stopping Distance friction materials, available right now in the aftermarket. They'll get the new coating.

As well, Alcoa offers a new 14-in. wide-base wheel, Exide has a strong new battery, and Betts Spring is showing a lightweight anti-spray quarter fender.
