No Trucks on Turcot Ramp

MONTREAL — No heavy trucks on a Turcot Interchange ramp, says Transport Quebec. There are cracks to be repaired.

The Montreal Gazette reported today that the ramp which links the Décarie Expressway to Highway 15 south leading to the Champlain Bridge is closed to trucks weighing more than 4,500 kilograms.

Truckers are asked to detour via Highway 20 and the Angrignon Interchange.

This could intensify traffic congestion in the area, the Gazette said.

Engineers sounded the alarm on Monday after discovering cracks in the two-lane, 750-metre-long ramp — used by 31,000 vehicles daily.

Repairs begin today and will be completed by the end of January. The ramp had been previously scheduled for major repairs next year.

In inspection reports released last month, engineers gave all 35 of the structures in the Turcot Interchange the worst grade possible.
