Nova Scotia thaw period to begin March 1

HALIFAX (Feb. 22) — Nova Scotia will begin to enforce spring weight restrictions on roads beginning on March 1, nearly two weeks earlier than in years past because of continuing mild weather.

A notice of restricted roads as well as those highways exempt from spring weight restrictions will be published in newspapers Feb. 23. The road exemption list will be available at district and area offices of the Dept. of Transportation and Public Works, and at provincial scale houses.

Minister of Transportation and Public Works Clifford Huskilson hinted at early restrictions last week.

The minister has the right to revise the zones, weight restrictions, dates and the list of exempt roads as conditions warrant.
