TORONTO— The Ontario Trucking Association (OTA) Education Foundation welcomes Scott Tilley, who will serve as vice-chair and Joe Glionna, who will sit on the board of directors.

Tilley is the co-president of Oakville-based Tandet Logistics, vice-chair of the OTA and sits on the boards of the Canadian Trucking Alliance and the Trucks for Change Network.

“[The trucking industry is a generous one with a long history of supporting many worthwhile causes,” Tilley says. “The OTA Education Foundation has distributed more than $250,000 in scholarships since 2008. That is serious money, but…we can do better.” 

As vice-chair, Tilley wants to expand the Foundation’s reach to more students and to increase its base of donors.

Glionna is Director of Newcom Truck Group and is involved with the OTA Allied Trades Division and the Toronto Transportation Club Boards of Directors.

Newcom Business Media, which publishes Today’s Trucking, was launched in 1987 by Jim Glionna, Tony Hohenadel, Rolf Lockwood, Wilson Smith, and Phil Knox. The company also publishes Truck and Trailer, Transport Routier, Canadian Technician, Plumbing and HVAC, and Canadian Car Owner magazines, plus their attendant websites. As well, Newcom owns and operates the country’s largest trucking trade shows, Truck World in Toronto and ExpoCam in Montreal.

“Our directors are thrilled that Joe has accepted a position on our board,” says Scott Smith, chairman of the OTA Education Foundation. “We think that Joe is a good fit for the Foundation, and we look forward to working with Joe as we continue to work towards meeting our ambitious goals.”

Glionna started working in the trucking industry full-time in 2006 as an advertising sales representative. Two years later, he moved to Montreal to open an office and establish a subsidiary of Newcom, focusing on the trucking industry in Québec — Transport Routier magazine. He moved back to Toronto in 2011 and is now Publisher of Today’s Trucking. He believes in “getting involved at the grass roots level”, a philosophy that was drilled into him by his father, Jim, who founded Newcom in 1987.
