Paws for applause for trucker Glen

BOISE, Idaho — Cold and snow got you down? This story’ll warm you up.

It’s about truck driver Glen Farrell and some of pals who rescued Eddie, a Jack Russell terrier that had been trapped underground for almost 19 hours.

Eddie was driver Farrell’s shotgun-riding companion but one day earlier this week, Farrell had some work to do away from his truck so he tied Eddie up in the yard.

Farrell returned to where his truck was parked, looked around and thought he lost his pal, and then heard barking. Coming from under the ground where he stood.

It appears as though Eddie had broken his leash, wandered a bit and fallen into an irrigation distribution box and then worked his way up into a narrow steel pipe under the pavement.

So even though Eddie was just a few feet below the surface, he was stuck and couldn’t turn around.

Half a dozen men sprung into action and used their diggers and heavy duty equipment to left the earth and cut Eddie out; he had wiggled 30 ft up the pipe from its entrance, and could not backtrack.

So they had to cut through asphalt, steel pipe and dirt and then, almost a full 19 hours later, Eddie popped his nose out of the hole.
Glen and Eddie, reunited at last.
