Pink truck & trailer = 75-ft. signal that trucking’s good

ST ANDREWS, MB – Trucking has been good to Dave Tyrchniewicz, president of Manitoba-based Turk Enterprises.

So he’s sharing that good news in a very loud way: With a flashy pink rig, decked out to call attention to the fight against cancer.

“When we do well and make money it’s our obligation to give back,” Tyrchniewicz says.

Turk Enterprises unveiled the Volvo truck and trailer at their open house in mid-November. The truck will run across Western Canada (mostly between Winnipeg and Vancouver), spreading the word about the need for cancer research: for all cancers, Tyrchniewicz says, not just breast cancer.

“We collected donations for cancer care while at the open house of the new terminal,” Tyrchniewicz says. “Most people have been touched by cancer, whether it’s their family or friends. I don’t know anyone who hasn’t been touched.”

“A lot of it is about awareness,” he says.

“It’s 75 feet of pink rolling down the road. Plus, I think it helps the trucking image a bit too, to have a nice pink truck out there supporting the fight against breast cancer.”

Tyrchniewicz is now looking for other ways of raising more money for the cause.

“Maybe we’ll ask our customers if they wish to donate as they fill up the pink truck and maybe we’ll have an honor roll on the side of the trailer for those who donate over a certain amount. We’re still figuring it out,” he says.

So far, Tyrchniewicz’s project has been met with considerable support, and he thanks Beaver Truck Centres, Ocean Trailers, Thermo King and JJ Graphics.

“There’s a lot of work that went into it and they were all very good about it and some of them donated their time or discounted their services or didn’t charge us extra for changing the truck’s color to pink and I want to thank them for being so good about it,” he says.

Tyrchniewicz also recently opened a brand-new 30,000-square-foot facility with office space, a five-bay shop and a big cooler at 64 Aviation Boulevard, nearby McPhillips St. and Parkdale Rd.
