Revenue Canada releases GST-HST info package for truckers

OTTAWA — Truckers still confused about how they’re affected by Ontario’s and B.C.’s merger of provincial and federal taxes can check out Canada Revenue Agency’s website for some direction.

Beginning in July, Ontario will implement a harmonized sales tax of 13 percent on just about all goods and services, of which 8 percent is provincial and 5 percent goes to Ottawa.

This info sheet released by CRA explains how the goods and services tax (GST) or the HST applies to freight transportation services.

The document can be accessed by clicking here.

While the average taxpayer might not agree, the Ontario Trucking Association supports the harmonized tax.
