Shifting To Natural Gas Trucks? Check Out These Workshops

OTTAWA, ON — Shifting towards natural gas trucks? You might want to mark these six natural gas fleet workshops in your calendar.

Six half-day workshops, supported by Natural Resources Canada’s ecoENERGY for Alternative Fuels program, will be held across Canada during February 2014 with a focus on medium- and heavy-duty factory-built natural gas vehicles. They’ll inform fleets on operating compressed natural gas (CNG) or liquefied natural gas (LNG) vehicles including project implementation and details about economic and environmental benefits.

“Natural gas for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles is one of the biggest made-in-Canada environmental stories of the decade. Switching to natural gas is a strategy that all fleet owners should be considering,” says Douglas Stout, vice president of FortisBC and chair of the Canadian Natural Gas Vehicle Alliance.

Here’s the list of workshops:

• Feb. 13: VGN 101 in Laval, QC, which will be held in French
• Feb. 18: NGV 101 Workshop in London, ON
• Feb. 19: NGV 101 Workshop in Mississauga, ON
• Feb. 19: Natural Gas Refuse Trucks Workshop in Calgary, AB
• Feb. 20: VGN 101 in Drummondville, QC, which will be held in French
• Feb. 26: Heavy Transport Workshop in Vancouver, BC

Topics covered:

• fleets’ options of brands and models of vehicles available in natural gas, their engines and fuel options (LNG and CNG)
• Available fueling stations in Canada and the U.S.
• Case studies from fleets who already operate LNG or CNG trucks

“Canadian innovation created the engines that can replace diesel with natural gas, and this technology is being used to transform the heavy vehicle transportation sector in North America,” Stout says.

The Canadian Natural Gas Vehicle Alliance stated in a press release that there are about 50 models of factory-built trucks and buses to choose from.

Operating fleet vehicles on natural gas can make transportation companies more competitive and can help municipal fleets become greener and cleaner. Natural gas vehicles reduce emissions by up to 20 percent compared to diesel vehicles.
