SALISBURY, N.B. — The government of Canada and the province of New Brunswick are each kicking in over $200,000 to support new projects. The government says funding will streamline and speed up many day-to-day tasks, such as down time spent at inspection stations.

The funding will make new technology available to east coast Canadian truckers with new Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) projects.

One of the major projects this money will go to is creating the Commercial Vehicle Preclearance System, which will bring down the number of times vehicles need to stop at inspection stations.

The Online Special Moves Permitting System, which will update and streamline the process to apply for and get special permits for moving over-sized and over-dimension loads, will create a one stop portal for everyone in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.

Finally, money is also allocated for the Provincial ITS Architecture planning document, to be used to identify ways to improve integration and information sharing. 

The projects total $427,000, with $210,000 from the federal government and $217,000 provincially. Currently, about 200 technology projects have received funding from the ITS Strategic Plan for Canada, or around $30 million.
