SmartTruck Unveils Fairing

SmartTruck recently introduced its LeadEdge top fairing for trailers, designed to manage the disruptive airflow in the gap between cab and trailer or between  trailer pairs.

It’s claimed to increase long-haul fuel efficiency by 2% as a stand-alone, with an incremental improvement in fuel economy when combined with aerodynamic systems addressing drag in other parts of the trailer. Payback is claimed to be especially quick for tandem-trailer operators.

The LeadEdge fairing was designed and optimized using sophisticated computational fluid dynamics. Predicted performance metrics were subsequently validated through coast-down testing. Live tandem fleet testing was expected to be complete by the end of 2015.

SmartTruck has consolidated its trailer portfolio to make it easier for customers to choose. The company will sell and distribute its SmartWay-verified and CARB-compliant aero systems in three branded configurations:
