LOS ANGELES - - Truckers going through the City of Angels need not worry about being caught by red-light cameras, as of yesterday morning.
L.A. City Council decided last week to quit the traffic-enforcement-camera game after they learned that the system not only cost taxpayers $1.5 million a year, there’s also considerable doubt that they make the city any safer.
So, red-faced and cash-strapped, the Council voted to end the program as of the end of July.
Some cameras, operated by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority will remain along bus and rail routes.
Plus, there are more than 30 other camera-enforcement programs operating in other municipalities in L.A. County.
