Stewart Cameron named Canada’s Driver of the Year

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — Stewart Cameron of Meyers Transport Ltd. in Peterborough, Ont., was named 1998 driver of the year by the Canadian Trucking Alliance and Volvo Trucks Canada. Cameron was selected from among drivers-of-the-year representing each of Canada’s seven provincial trucking associations.

The award was presented last night at a ceremony held at TruckCan ’98.

Cameron, 41, has been a professional truck driver for 24 years, and has driven 1.6-million kilometres with no preventable accidents. In 1997, he received a National Transportation Week Award of Valor for rescuing a truck driver from a burning wreck.

“I know it’s difficult for the judges to choose a winner — the other provincial winners are very worthy,” Cameron said after he accepted his driver-of-the-year honors. “I want to take the time to recognize those drivers for the work they’ve done, too.”

Cameron lives in Norwood, Ont.
