Suspect shot dead in armored truck robbery

EDMONTON, AB – One suspect has been shot dead during an early morning robbery of armored truck guards in southeast Edmonton, the city’s police report.

Police were called to a financial institution near 25 Avenue and Hewes Way at about 12:45 am on Friday July 8. When they arrived, they found a dead man lying on the ground.

Two robbery suspects are believed to have approached the guards, pepper sprayed them, and demanded cash. One of the guards allegedly shot a suspect dead. The second suspect remains at large.

The two guards were treated on the scene for exposure to pepper spray, but were otherwise physically unharmed.

Anyone with information about the incident or knows the whereabouts of the second suspect is asked to call Edmonton police at 780-423-4567, or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
