Tandet Continues Wave of Trucking Purchases

OAKVILLE, ON – The parent to several trucking operations continues growing, purchasing Connell Transport, based in Hamilton, ON.

The move by Tandet Group creates new opportunities in its bulk logistics business, Tandet Logistics, according to the company, with the addition of 60 tractors and 80 trailers, and giving it terminals in Oakville, Mississauga, Cambridge and Sarnia, ON, along with a western focused terminal and rail transfer operation in Winnipeg, MB.

Terms of the deal have not been released.

“Tandet has positioned our investments to service customers with direct delivery services, through our dedicated and bulk trucking operations, as well as indirectly through our freight management operations” said Scott Tilley, president of the trucking divisions. “Our acquisitions have allowed us larger scope and more flexibility to address customer needs.”

The purchase follows Tandet acquiring Bonneau Freight in June. When combined with Tandet’s other two freight management operations, RG Transportation Services, purchased in 2010, and ShipNorthAmerica, acquired in January, this creates a service offering with truckload, less-than-truckload, van, tank, expedite, flatbed/drop and refrigerated specialties, serving all of Canada and most of the U.S.

In April Tandet acquired the customer base of Emergency Breakdown Services, located in Mississauga, and merged that operation into the Group’s T-Fleet Services operation, now with 200 customers and 30,000 vehicles. It provides both private fleet and carrier fleet customers with emergency on-road service, planned maintenance programs, warranty tracking and recovery, as well as equipment acquisition services throughout Canada and the U.S., according to the company.
