Technician Killed on the Job in New Brunswick

GRAND FALLS, NB — A heavy-duty technician was killed Friday in Grand Falls, New Brunswick when a part of the truck he was working on broke apart.

According to WorkSafeNB, the 31-year-old technician, who has yet to be named, was taking apart a truck cylinder when parts that were under pressure struck him, causing fatal injuries.

The technician worked at Northern Construction Inc., in Grand Falls, N.B.

WorkSafeNB is investigating the incident. Health and safety officers are trying to determine how the accident could have been prevented and if there were any violations of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, said spokeswoman Mary Tucker.

The investigation will focus on workplace procedures and stored energy, she said.

Northern Construction is one of the largest transportation construction contractors in Atlantic Canada, according to the company’s website. The company offers a variety of services, including asphalt paving, trucking and quarry services, the website states.
