TORONTO – Load volumes picked up in September after two months in a row of declining freight volumes. September saw increases across the board with  month-over-month load volumes increasing five percent, and year-over-year volumes jumping 28 percent.

September volumes were the highest ever recorded for any September in any year, surpassing the previous records set in 2005 and 2011 by six percent. Also, volumes for the third quarter beat any previous third quarter results since TransCore Link Logistics started recording data. Third quarter volumes in 2014 topped those set in 2013 by 23 percent.

Here’s where the goods are coming from:

• 68 percent of all load volumes were cross-border;
• 26 percent of all load volumes were intra-Canada and rose 22 percent year over year.

Where do the U.S. goods arrive?

• 56 percent in Ontario;
• 24 percent in Western Canada;
• 17 percent in Quebec;
• Three percent in Atlantic Canada.

Where do they originate?

• 43 percent in Western Canada;
• 34 percent in Ontario;
• 16 percent in Quebec;
• Seven percent in Atlantic Canada.

Where are they unloaded?

• 33 percent in Western Canada;
• 37 percent in Ontario;
• 28 percent in Quebec;
• Two percent in Atlantic Canada.
