Trailcon Fortifies Team, Prepares for Growth Spurt

Mike Krell, Trailcon’s sales and marketing manager, Canada.

MISSISSAUGA, ON — National trailer rental, leasing, and fleet maintenance specialist Trailcon Leasing Inc. is strengthening its team to prepare for coast-to-coast operations.

Transportation industry veteran Mike Krell, who’s been a member of the Trailcon team for 15 years, has taken on the role of sales and marketing manager Canada and Randy Legare, a certified management accountant, joined the Trailcon team as controller.

“The foundation of any growing business is a team of people with the ability and drive to take the company even further,” said President Alan Boughton. “We are preparing for the future through succession planning and building the business.”

In February, Boughton announced Trailcon’s purchase of Calgary-based Hubs Trailer Service, saying that Trailcon was “in growth mode.”

“As we expand, we have an amazing opportunity to help existing and potential customers develop their own businesses, whether they rent, lease, or require dedicated fleet maintenance or service,” Krell said.

Krell started with Trailcon in 2000 as an account representative, back when the company had 2,000 trailers and 15 technicians. The company now has 75 technicians and owns a fleet of 6,500 units, servicing companies such as ATS Healthcare, Canada Cartage, National Fast Freight, as well as some of Canada’s largest grocery and retail chains. Its dedicated fleet maintenance operation looks after an additional 8,500 customer-owned units across Canada.

“The successes we’ve had are based on doing things right for our customers,” Krell said. ” Since I’ve been in this key management role, I’ve been focused on maintaining the highest possible standards of customer service across the country.”

Randy Legare, Trailcon’s controller.

As for Legare, he’s a new recruit to the trucking business. His expertise in business management and finance was mostly gained with a large elevator and escalator design and service company, where he spent 14 years of his career.  He’s also taught professional accounting programs for the past eight years.

Legare commented: “You might say it’s a bit of a leap, from elevators to trailer leasing, but this is a great opportunity for me to put my experience to work in a different way. My focus here is to support our geographic growth plan by making sure we’re ahead of the game with world class IT systems and other resources and infrastructure that will support a national company.”

He added that he’s excited to be a part of a homegrown Canadian company that’s growing. He’ll serve as controller but also as a business strategy consultant and moderator for the Society of Management Accountants Canada.

Currently, Trailcon has operations in Mississauga and Cornwall in Ontario and Edmonton and Calgary in Alberta.  A new location is under construction in Mississauga.
