TransCore's Canadian Freight Index Up Over July

TORONTO — TransCore’s Canadian Freight Index — a reflection of the spot market within Canada and cross border — saw a one percent increase in August over July, the company said today.

However, year-over-year load volumes were down 13 percent, TransCore said.

Cross-border volume accounted for 71 percent of overall loads, while intra-Canada freight made up 25 percent of total load volumes.

Equipment availability increased three percent month-over-month, 13 percent year-over-year.

Available capacity has continued to increase, TransCore said, noting that August marked the highest levels so far this year.

Equipment postings, compared to peak posting levels of August 2007, were down three percent.

"While an increase was seen in both equipment and load postings," TransCore said, "the equipment to loads ratio for August widened to the largest variance in 2012, depicting a larger increase in available capacity."
