Trash-Talking: Waste-Sector Truckers Meet to Compete

CAMBRIDGE, ON – So who’s the best garbage man in Ontario?

You can find out June 14, when hundreds of drivers, families and fans descend on this central-Ontario city for the 24th Annual Waste-sector Truck-Driving Championships.

The competition is organized by the Ontario Waste Management Association (OWMA) and includes participants from both private and public waste-management companies.

Last year’s winners included professionals from the following:

  • Waste Management of Canada Corporation;
  • Wasteco;
  • GFL Environmental;
  • City of Hamilton;
  • BFI Canada/Progressive Waste Solutions.

A new feature this year is an informal social “roundup” on Friday evening before Saturday’s competition, which starts bright and early at 7:00 a.m. when drivers write the exam before proceeding to the competition grounds for the actual contest.

The contest will consist of the following categories:

1. Special Services (single-axle recycling trucks; boom trucks; side loaders)

2. Tandem Axle Rear Loader

3. Front End Loader.

The event will take place at Waste Management of Canada Corporation facility at 505 Conestoga Blvd, Cambridge, ON.
