Truck Fleet Becoming Entirely Aboriginal-Owned

Behchoko NT — A First Nations organization representing the Tlicho Nation is increasing its stake in one trucking company, making it entirely aboriginal owned.

According to CBC News, Tlicho Investment Corp. is expected to sign a deal this week upping its ownership to 90 percent from 60 percent in Ventures West Transport.

It is reportedly purchasing the extra stake from Glenn Bauer, one of Ventures West’s founders. The other 10% is owed by Lutsel K’e’s Denesoline Corp.

According to the Ventures West website, the fleet was established in May 1989 as a common carrier, specializing in bulk commodities, and focusing on operations in the four western provinces, the Yukon, and the Northwest Territories. It consists of 207 super B tankers, and 60 company-owned heavy spec tractors and has nearly 350 leased operators pulling its trailers.
