Truckers Deliver Five Truckloads of Live-Saving Water

TORONTO – Fleet outsourcing carrier Canada Cartage supplied five trailers to help charitable organization Engage and Change deliver 300,000 water bottles to people in danger of dehydration.

Every year as the summer temperature rises in the city, more homeless people are at risk of dying of dehydration than from exposure in winter, Engage and Change claims. But with the help of Canada Cartage and other volunteers, the charity distributed cases of water and essentials to over 150 front-line relief organizations in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

“We can’t move the water without Canada Cartage. Hundreds of thousands of bottles of water are transported in one day, and the logistics are complex. Their help is invaluable to the operation of this event, and the overall success of our efforts,” says Jody Steinhauer, the charity’s founder. “This life-changing program could not have been mobilized without the support of our community sponsors,” Steinhauer says.

Canada Cartage volunteers annually with the Project Water initiative and this year, the company’s Mississauga dispatch team handled the logistics between the various drop-off points around the GTA.

“If we didn’t do this every day, from coast-to-coast, it might be an insurmountable task to accomplish in just a few hours,” says Paul Hanson, Canada Cartage’s operations manager, who has been involved in Project Water for several years.  “But our company has the resources and experience to make it happen. We’re proud to serve Project Water-a great initiative-year after year.”

Project Water has delivered over 1.8 million bottles of water to distribution points around the GTA-but they’re not stopping there. The initiative is looking to expand to locations all around the country.
