Truckers Had Busiest October EVER

TORONTO- Truckers hauled more goods in October 2014 than any recorded number for October in any year, according to TransCore Link Logistics Canadian Freight Index.

Month-over-month, October’s freight volume were just one percent higher than the previous month’s.

While the freight volume was stable from September to October, there were some note-worthy changes:

• Western Canada loads picked up from 33 percent in September to 37 percent in October;
• Ontario loads dropped from 37 percent in September to 34 percent in October;
• There were two trucks available for every one load, an equipment-to-load ratio not seen in the past 10 months.

Where are the goods coming from?

• 69 percent of all loads came from across the border;
• 26 percent came from within Canada.

“Loads leaving Canada to the U.S. vaulted 70 percent year-over-year and loads into Canada improved 14 percent year-over-year,” TransCore claims.

Where do the U.S. goods arrive?

• 58 percent in Ontario
• 23 percent in Western Canada
• 17 percent in Quebec
• Two percent in Atlantic Canada

Intra-Canada load volumes represented 26 percent of the total volumes for October and rose 22 percent year-over-year.

Where do they originate?

• 44 percent from Western Canada
• 34 percent from Ontario
• 16 percent from Quebec
• Six percent from Atlantic Canada

Where are they unloaded?

• 37 percent in Western Canada
• 34 percent in Ontario
• 26 percent in Quebec
• Three percent in Atlantic Canada
