Truckers Win: Court Rules Against Port Metro Vancouver

VANCOUVER, B.C. – A group of container truck drivers won their court case against Port Metro Vancouver on the grounds that the selection process for who can get licenses to haul cargo in and out of the port was unfair.

Port Metro Vancouver can either appeal the Federal Court’s decision or issue new licenses to applicants, adding about 200 trucks.

The Port implemented its new licensing system as part of the agreement to end last year’s 28-day strike. The system was meant to eliminate some 1,500 trucks from the licensing roster and reduce competition and undercutting of drivers’ rates.
