HALIFAX -- Jean-Marc Picard, executive director of the Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association, has begun pushing for port terminals to take responsibility for snow removal from containers and trailers, reported The Chronicle Herald.
Picard noted that it can be difficult for carriers to arrange for snow removal, which usually involves driving to another part of the city.
Ashley Dinning, president and CEO of Halterm Container Terminal Ltd., said that the APTA was offered a solution whereby containers would be scraped as trucks left the port terminal.
However, the $40,000 estimated cost of the two scrapers would come out of the APTA’s wallet. Picard wanted to discuss sharing the bill with Halterm, but it wasn’t part of the offer, he said.
The APTA plans on lobbying the government, but Halifax Port Authority spokeswoman Michele Peveril said the issue is between the trucking companies and terminals operators.
