Trucking Firm Hands Out $4-Million in Scholarships And Counting

ANN ARBOR, MI- Keisha Maloney of Brooklin, Ontario, is the only Canadian winner in Con-Way’s scholarship program this year. She will attend the University of Ottawa.

Scholarship recipients are full-time students whose parents have worked for Con-way Freight, Con-way Truckload or Menlo Logistics or the company’s corporate and administrative organizations for three years in a row or longer. Each student must show excellent achievements in academics, athletics and community engagement.

“With the costs of college tuition continuing to rise, funding post-secondary education remains a significant challenge for deserving students and their families,” said Douglas Stotlar, president and CEO of Con-way Inc. “By assisting the children of our employees with these educational grants, we are helping them gain skills and knowledge that are critical for success in today’s job market. It’s an honor to support these exemplary young people in their pursuit of collegiate achievement.”

Con-Way has awarded $200,000 to 169 students – 51 new and 118 returning students – through its scholarship program in 2014. Over the past 20 years, the company’s scholarship program has awarded about $4-million in grants to more than 1,300 students.

The application period for the 2015 – 2016 scholarship program will open in December of 2014 and will close in February of 2015. Eligible employees can get a scholarship application for their children at the company’s website, or through their human resources representative. Scholarship America is the administrator of Con-way’s Scholarship Program, and all grants are renewable for up to three years, or upon completion of a bachelor’s degree or vocational program.
