Trucking Organizations Fight For Private Fleet Members

OAKVILLE, ON- The Private Motor Truck Council of Canada (PMTC) has sent a press release defending its area of expertise after the Ontario Trucking Association (OTA) started to compete for PMTC’s members.

“Earlier this week, the Ontario Trucking Association announced plans to develop a subcommittee known as the ‘private carrier council’,” said PMTC President Mike Millian. “The name sounded vaguely familiar to us, but the PMTC wants to stress that it is not involved in this project in any way.”

The OTA did announce the creation of its very own Private Carrier Council (PCC), saying that it already has some 50 private carrier members. OTA stated it wants to grow its private carrier membership and to better represent all carrier sectors.

But that impedes on the PMTC’s area of expertise as the council has served private and dedicated fleets since 1977. PMTC’s Millian told todaystrucking.com that their membership includes many large, mid-size and small companies, and that the council represents retail, breweries, agriculture, transporters of dangerous goods, food, furniture, leasing sectors, beverage and so on.

“[The PMTC] continues to meet the unique interests of those who move their own freight or use trucks as tools to deliver a broad array of services,” the council stated.

“It’s great to see that a for-hire fleet organization has come around to our view that private fleets have unique needs,” Millian said. “Rest assured, the Private Motor Truck Council of Canada will continue to meet those needs for years to come.”

Here are some of the things the PMTC provides:

  • Focused information for private fleets delivered through regular e-bulletins, news briefs, and its magazine- Private Motor Carrier magazine;
  • Cost-effective educational and networking opportunities including Canada’s largest annual conference dedicated to private fleets and more;
  • A strong voice for private fleets in discussions with government regulators;
  • Partnerships with like-minded organizations that are committed to the same goals;
  • Unique member-only discounts and value-added services from reputable industry suppliers;
  • Business guidance and consulting services which understand the nuances of private fleet operations, and how they interact with other aspects of a business.

The PMTC also puts together the annual truck graphic awards. You can see last year’s winners here.
