Truckload Activity Raised Price of Ground Transportation in January

TORONTO- Shippers paid 2.4 percent more for ground transportation in January 2015 than they did in December, according to the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI), published by industry analysts at Nulogx.

“Total Freight costs continue to rise, driven by Truckload activity in January despite decreasing fuel costs,” said Doug Payne, president of Nulogx. “Once again Cross Border and Domestic LTL Total Costs slid in January, but were out-weighed by the Cross Border and Domestic TL increases. Of particular note, we have seen a steady increase in accessorial charges  since May 2014.”.

The Base Rate Index  increased by 2.8 percent in January  when compared to December 2014 and another three percent in December 2014 when compared to November 2014. Fuel, on the other hand was 17.22 percent of base rates in January versus 18.65 percent in December.
