Twin-Steer Star

Western Star now offers a twin-steer factory option for its Constellation 5800 heavy-duty truck.

Intended for vocational truck operators operating under distinct weight restrictions, the twin-steer option provides manoeuvrability and maximum weight transfer for the short-nosed 109-inch-BBC 5800. It’s typically used in heavy dump, crane, and utility applications, among others.

The new option has a 40,000-pound combined rating for the twin front steer axles and provides a maximum GVW of 86,000 pounds. It features a 50-inch setback to the first steer axle with an 86-inch setback to the centre of the steer tandem. A 72-inch spread between the steer axles is matched to the cab door position to allow for simple and safe entry and exit. Western Star’s proprietary shackle four-spring suspension is incorporated into the front axle design.

Twin-steer configurations are also available on the company’s Constellation 4800 FX and 4900 SX models.
