Uniroyal launches affordable tire line

MONTREAL, QC – Uniroyal has come to the Canadian truck market, choosing the recent Expocam show here to launch six tires specifically for this country. A Michelin brand, the company entered the Mexican truck-tire market last year, while a launch in the U.S. is yet to come.

Uniroyal has made passenger and light-truck tires for 123 years dating back to 1892.

Uniroyal's HD60 on/off-road drive tireThe new truck line is called a “value offer”, aimed especially at owner-operators and small fleets, providing an “affordable and dependable” tire for every position and application from long haul to regional to on/off-road. Two of the tires are SmartWay-verified, which means they have met the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirements for superior fuel efficiency.

According to Harold Phillips, COO for Michelin North America (Canada) Inc., the new line of tires aims to compete with offshore brands on price, though they’re made in Michelin’s plant in Spartanburg, SC. Price-wise, they fall below both stablemates Michelin and BF Goodrich, costing approximately 55% of the price of an equivalent Michelin tire.

Safety is not compromised despite the low price, Phillips promises, noting that the difference will be seen mostly in tread life and the number of retreads available.

At the heart of every Uniroyal tire, the company says, is DuraShield construction, which brings three strategic features, including pyramidal steel belts, insulating belt edge strips, and a heavy-gauge inner liner, working together to reduce stress, promote endurance, and protect the tire’s casing.

The new Uniroyal line consists of six tread designs:

•           LS24 – SmartWay-verified long-haul steer/all-position tire

•           LT40 – Long-haul and regional trailer tire

•           RS20 – SmartWay-verified regional steer/all-position tire

•           RD30 – Regional and long-haul drive tire

•           HS50 – On/off-road steer/all-position tire

•           HD60 – On/off-road drive tire

All are now available in sizes 11R22.5 and 11R24.5, with new sizes coming in June and December. First we’ll see 225/70R19.5 and 245/70R19.5 RD30 models, then 315/80R22.5 and 425/65R22.5 HS50 tires later in the year.

The new truck tires are backed by a four-year  manufacturer’s limited warranty. Certain long-haul and regional applications are also covered by a one-retread limited warranty, provided that it’s done within the first four years from the date of manufacture by an authorized Michelin Retread Technologies or Oliver Retread dealer.
