US Diesel jumps to four-month high

WASHINGTON -- The average price of diesel in the U.S. jumped 6.3 cents this week to $2.99 -- the highest average price hike since late May and is the third straight weekly increase.

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, several regions reported prices at over $3 per gallon.

The highest average price, $3.124, was on the West Coast, with California at $3.18 a gallon.

In Canada, diesel and furnace oil prices have stayed relatively level since April.

Prices in southern Alberta, as usual, are the lowest, averaging about 83 cents a liter this week – the same as four months ago.

Quebec and Atlantic Canada average prices 25 to 30 cents higher than that.

Southern Ontario diesel prices are slightly higher than in April, jumping from about 95 cents in the GTA to over $1.00 a liter last week.
