Wide-Single ContiTread
Continental Tire’s HTL1 ContiTread flat precure tread is now available, in 400-millimeter tread width, for fleets that operate wide-single drive or trailer tires in sizes 445/50R22.5 and 455/55R22.5.
The HTL1 (Heavy Trailer Long Haul) aims at liquid- and dry-bulk hauling applications where weight is a concern, or at fleets seeking to take advantage of weight savings for greater fuel efficiency by reducing the number of wheel and rim assemblies. Continental’s HTL1 ContiTread matches the tread pattern of the new tire, and features 13/32-in. tread depth as well as what is called a “fuel-efficient rib pattern.”
The 400mm width allows Continental greater flexibility in the casings it can accept, because now it can retread casings with all the common sizes in this segment.
Continental has also announced that its HDR2 Eco Plus, a fuel-efficient drive tire, has had SmartWay approval for use in drive positions on class-8 linehaul tractors. It’s the 21st Continental new or retreaded truck tire currently listed as verified for SmartWay. Test results for the HTL1 ContiTread will also be submitted to SmartWay for verification.
