Winnipeg completes upgrades on key truck route

WINNIPEG, MB – Winnipeg city officials cut the ribbon on nearly $70 million of road upgrades that will improve trucking routes.

The Waverley West Arterial Roads Project was opened Friday, extending key arteries, reconfiguring several intersections, and adding new overpasses.

Winnipeg Mayor Brian Bowman said the project area is an essential route, not only for Winnipeggers, he said, but also as a trucking route that has a significant impact on the city’s trade.

The total cost of the project was $69.7 million with $18.2 million from the federal government, $15 million from the province and the remaining $36.5 million from the city.

Bowman said he was pleased all three levels of government came together on the project.
