TORONTO, ON – Trucking HR Canada has once again recognized fleets that follow best practices in human resources, unveiling a series of awards during the 2017 Top Fleet Employers Gala.

Forty-eight fleets earned the right to identify themselves as Top Fleet Employers this year, following reviews conducted by the organization.

Brenda Cuthbert of Siemens Transportation Group was recognized as HR Leader of the Year. “This leader sees the value in linking HR policies to corporate vision and thinking about HR in a strategic role to face issues straight on,” acting Chief Executive Officer David Bradley said when presenting the award. “[She has] seen the trucking industry transform over the years, while still remaining true to key principles.”

Cuthbert – who missed the gala because of a cancelled flight — has played a role in several key initiatives, leading to the growth of an increasingly diverse workforce, expanded orientation programs, extensive training programs, and a shift in recruiting efforts to attract and engage women and youth.

Bison Transport was recognized as the top large fleet, while Kriska Holdings was named top medium fleet, One for Freight the top small fleet, and STG Fleet Services as top private fleet.

Westcan Bulk Transport earned the first-ever achievement of excellence for workplace culture, while XTL Transport was recognized for workplace diversity, Bison Transport was honored for training and development, Challenger Motor Freight for HR innovator, and Sutco Transportation Specialists for employee engagement.

The crowd also recognized Chief Executive Officer Angela Splinter, who missed this year’s event while being treated for cancer, with a standing ovation after her written greetings were read from the podium.

“We think this is a special celebration – the one night a year in our industry that celebrates and honors the positives, and all the good things we are doing,” Splinter wrote. “We are proud to recognize the important contributions HR professionals make to this industry each and every day.”
