Bison wins green supply chain award

WOODBRIDGE, Ont. — Bison Transport has been honored with Transport Canada’s Green Supply Chain award.

The company was selected for its ongoing commitment to reducing carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions by continuing to improve the environmental performance of its freight operations.

In presenting the award to company president and CEO Don Streuber at the Supply Chain and Logistics Association of Canada’s 43rd annual conference in Woodbridge, Ont. this week, Eric Sevigny of Transport Canada said many of Bison’s fleet of 1,050 tractors and 3,000 trailers have been equipped with environmentally friendly equipment.

These include fuel-efficient tires, transmissions and engines, trailer side fairings, auxiliary power units to reduce idling, and in-cab computers to monitor fuel economy. In addition, Bison has embraced the use of long combination vehicles (LCVs) which have shown to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40 percent.

"These and other measures the company has implemented make its operation more efficient and benefit the environment," Sevigny said.

Bison is an active member of Natural Resources Canada’s FleetSmart Program as well as a SmartWay Transport Partner, a national and voluntary partnership of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
