Construction on section of Toronto Gardiner to finish early

Posted: December 18, 2014

TORONTO- Toronto Mayor John Tory announced that construction on a section of the Gardiner Expressway will finish two months ahead of schedule at an extra cost of $2-million, according to reports.

Tory said $2-million is a “relatively small price to pay” and a “sound investment” to re-open the Gardiner from the Exhibition Place to Grand Magazine Street in May 2015, two months ahead of schedule.

The entire Gardiner is expected to be done by December 2016.

The City of Toronto claims the cost of construction on the Gardiner is about $1-million each day for commuters whose travel time is longer due to construction related lane-closures.

The accelerated completion date also means all lanes will be open for the upcoming Pan Am Games.
