VANCOUVER ISLAND, BC – A funding boost for Vancouver Island University (VIU) has opened up 16 seats for Level 3 heavy-duty equipment technicians.

Advanced Education Minister Andrew Wilkinson made the announcement Wednesday during a visit to the Nanaimo campus of VIU.

In all, the university will see a $262,000 funding boost for the electrical, heavy duty equipment technician and power engineer programs.

“An additional 96 trades seats will ensure that the increasing demand for spaces continues to be met,” Wilkinson announced.
