Duncan and other stakeholders were in Windsor for a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of the long-awaited $1.4-billion Windsor-Essex Parkway.
"It is not the ‘road to nowhere,’" he said, referring to the private Ambassador Bridge Company’s advertising campaign to try and stop the project. "It is the road to the future for our city and no one is going to stop this."
The Ambassador Bridge opposes the parkway route and the proposed new border crossing it’s intended to feed.
The parkway will be a six-lane, below-grade highway extension, from Hwy 401 to the Brighton Beach area in southwest Windsor – the proposed site for the new bridge.
It is meant as an alternate commercial bypass away from Windsor’s congested Huron Church corridor.
It’s expected to open sometime in 2014.
