MTO Releases Renderings of Nipigon Bridge Repairs

NIPIGON, ON – The Ontario Ministry of Transportation orchestrated weekend closures around Highway 11/17 at the Nipigon River Bridge to allow for repairs.

Closures of approximately two hours were planned on Saturday, Feb. 20 and Sunday, Feb. 21 from 4 a.m. to 6 a.m., giving bridge workers opportunities to make necessary bridge repairs to ensure the bridge reopens to two lanes of traffic by March.

Additional short-term closures allowed for concrete barriers to be removed.

As seen in the pictures below, primary temporary repairs to the bridge’s support system have already been installed and tested.

Only one lane of traffic with restrictions has been open since Jan. 11, when an expansion joint failed in the cold weather, raising the bridge deck.
