Omnitracs and Samsung team up to offer ELD

DALLAS, TX – Omnitracs and Samsung are joining forces to help fleets meet the impeding compliance deadline for Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs).

With the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) deadline to have ELDs installed in trucks Dec. 18, the two technology giants announced a partnership this morning to have Omnitracs’ XRS fleet management software available on Samsung mobile devices.

The groups say the compliant solution will make it easy for drivers to safely monitor their Hours of Service (HoS) and comply with legal requirements during on- and off-duty management of vehicles, while also providing them with a device that can have applications like games and social media for off-duty use.

In addition to HoS tracking, the software provides fleets with key driver performance analytics, including fuel usage, drive time, speed, driving behavior, driver vehicle inspection reporting (DVIR), and trip data. Omnitracs says this data will help fleets to improve driver safety, lower costs and increase productivity.

CEO of Omnitracs John Graham says Samsung has a reputation for having state-of-the-art, ultra-secure technology, which will help to ease implementation for carriers.

Device security will be provided by Samsung through their Samsung Knox security program. Samsung Knox is built directly into the hardware, and helps keep data and communications secure, through a program called the Knox Workspace.

Knox Workspace provides a dual environment in the tablet – essentially partitioning the device into two, with two home screens and two sets of applications. This allows safe work usage on the road and personal recreation during off hours.

The programs are compatible with Samsung mobile devices including smartphones and tablets like the Galaxy Tab E, and will be available to fleets through resellers.

Ted Brodheim, vice president, vertical business and B2B mobile division, Samsung Electronics America, said the company is excited to partner with Omnitracs as fleets race to become ELD compliant.
