TORONTO, ON – A Request for Information (RFI) has been issued by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) that will help lay a foundation for commercial vehicle pre-clearance and pre-screening systems, often referred to as automated scales.
The Ontario Trucking Association reports that it has for years been asking the province for the systems, and included the request in a 2017 pre-budget submission.
“Enforcement attention should be focused where it’s most required,” says Geoff Wood, the association’s vice president – operations and safety.
The MTO says it will review the feasibility and design of such a system, and then implement pilot projects at key locations.
“It is critical that all inspections are captured and recorded in some medium and provided appropriate level of credit,” Wood adds.
