TORONTO, (July 14, 2004) — New Communications Group Inc. — the parent company of Today’s Trucking, Canada’s leading business publication for the trucking industry, has named Peter Carter editor.
Carter has taken over the editorial reins from Stephen Petit, who will be returning to his home state, where he’ll work with the Siefkes Group — a business-to-business public relations agency based in Issaquah, Wash. He will provide marketing and public relations services to the agency’s transportation clients, plus be involved in new business efforts.
Petit, who has developed a stable of award-winning writers and editors since he joined NCG in 1993, will continue to contribute editorial material to Today’s Trucking on a regular basis.
Carter, who has served as managing editor of Today’s Trucking for the last year, is no stranger to either the business press or the transportation industry. Raised in Sudbury, Ont. Carter’s family operated a fleet of 60 buses in that northern Ontario town for 30 years.
“It’s ironic because the first magazine I ever read when I was a kid was Bus and Truck Transport, which was kind of like Today’s Trucking’s granddaddy,” Carter says.
Growing up, Carter explored journalism and became the editor of the Manitoulin Island Expositor. Since then, he’s been an editor at several prestigious Canadian business magazines including the Metro Toronto Business Journal and the Financial Post. He has received a number of journalistic accolades, including the Governor General Roland Michener Award for Meritorious Public Service in Journalism.
Today’s Trucking is Canada’s leading business-to-business publication for the trucking industry — collecting 20 Gold, Silver and Top Five mentions over the last 10 years at the Canadian Business Press’ Kenneth R. Wilson Awards.
