Shell dotting the T’s on synthetic heavy duty oil

Posted: August 1, 2014

Shell has introduced its first fully synthetic heavy-duty engine oil: Rotella T Synthetic.

The company says Rotella T Synthetic combines outstanding cold-temperature starting and advanced soot-handling capacity, helping prolong engine life, even in extreme conditions.

By using the Shell synthetic base oil technology, the Rotella T flows better than conventional oils under cold start conditions. This means the protective properties of Rotella T get to the parts more quickly, resulting in less wear on start-up and easier starting throughout the service period, with little to no viscosity breakdown.

Engine design changes due to stricter emission requirements have led to increased soot in the engine and the oil. The company says Rotella T provides excellent protection against engine wear and viscosity thickening due to soot, adding that the 5W-40 meets or exceeds the requirements of API CH-4, CG-4, CF-4, and CF. It also meets or exceeds the Cummins CES 20076, Mack EO-M Plus, Caterpillar, and Detroit Diesel requirements.

Rotella T Synthetic 5W-40 is available in drums, 5-gallon pails, gallon jugs, and quart bottles through Shell’s extensive distributor network, truckstops, mass merchandisers, and automotive retailers nationwide.
